Helping Hands

A group of friends have gotten together to help a dear friend who is in a very dificult and complicated circumstance.
First let me introduce our friend. Her name is Becky Anthony. She is in her mid fourties. Becky has been maried more than 25 years. Her husband decided she not work outside the home, so she raised two beautiful children and kept a lovely, warm and caring home for them. Becky is a soft spoken gentle person. I first got to know her through my search for a dog. I often call her the dog whisperer because she is so good at helping dogs that others gave up on. To all apearences she led a happy near perfect life. However apearences can be so decieving.
What we did not see was the ways he controled her by making her totally dependent on him for everything, a car, food, heat, lights, a pack of cigaretts, a candy bar. We did not see the emotional abuse of her and their two children.
When he decided he no longer wanted to be married, he left them and moved in with his girlfriend. He left them no money and Becky having no real job skills and no job history, has had no luck with finding a job. She qualified for food stamps and HEAP but nothing else. Becky and her husband jointly own property, which is frozen due to devorice procedding, not that the home or property could have been sold as this happened right at the time the economy went south.
Becky did hire a lawyer and has since found out that her case was not handled properly from the start.
Becky made several attempts to get an order of protection through the courts and was denied each time. She had police reports showing that her husband was stalking her, threatening her, harassing her by phone. Her lawyer decided to ask the court to be allowed to resign and this was granted. Becky is not elligable for assistance from legal aide because of the jointly owned marital property, she represented herself in court. The judge ruled that she must sell all martial assets and split the proceedes with her husband. He also denied her any form of support from her husband. The judge denied again her request for and order of protection.During the court proceddings she was denied access to her file as she owed her lawyer money. Beckey has since found out that she could apply for something call "poor persons status" so she can file motions without being charged the filing fee. She has spoken with another lawyer who said she had been raked over the coals and the the judge did some things that were very wrong. She has some options open to her but really needs a lawyer as the case is so complicated ( I have only hit the highlights, there is a lot more)
So her friends are holding an online fund raing in order to help defray legal expenses, and help with getting her car repaired so she can look for work and be able to get to and from work.
I will be posting the link for our fundraier page in the few days. I want to thank all who have helped and will help.
